No Surprises Act
Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act
As of January 1, 2022, the No Surprises Act protects clients from unexpected medical bills for services received from out-of-network providers. This includes mental health services. Here's what you need to know:
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" of expected charges for your therapy sessions. This applies to clients who plan to pay out of pocket.
The estimate will outline the cost of services and any additional fees. You can request this estimate in advance of scheduling sessions or receiving services.
Your Rights
- You cannot be billed more than the amount on your Good Faith Estimate.
- If the actual charges exceed $400 above the estimate, you can dispute the bill.
